I just got yelled at by some woman
And I didn't even do anything except just exist. I pulled up to the post office, I knew there was something off with this woman that was sort of pacing beside her car. I parked, grabbed my packages to mail, walked into the post office, noticed how empty it was inside (a rarity), plopped by packages in the shoot and walked back to my car. By the time I was seated back in my car with the engine idling and turning around to back out I noticed this woman (the one that was pacing) in her car sort of talking at me. But when I focused in on her I could tell she wasn't just casually saying something, she was like spitting out sentences. I had no idea what she was saying, my window was up as well as hers. So whatever message she was trying to convey to me was completely lost between two enclosed cars. All I thought was, did I roll over her foot, did I park on her baby and then I thought do I know her? She looked very normal like she just got off from work at the bank or from producing an E! show. She had smart glasses, dark wavy hair, she was in her 30's. She had a nice car. I hadn't done anything to her. She was just wacko. She snapped. So in the split second of the time that I realized that her anger was directed at me to the time that I knew that I had nothing to do with her anger I shrugged and left. As I drove home I was so unnerved. Not as unnerved as I've been in the past when people that have snapped have directed their frustration at me. But I felt a multitude of emotions, sadness (it's sad to watch someone crack up), guilt (should I have found out what fictitious thing I did to her), relief (I was happy to be resolutely sane in this situation). What was it about me that caused this? It's crazy making. Then my mind wandered to that she was totally sane and this is just some way that she vents. She picks random people, ones that she knows are sane enough to take the barrage of hatred and not retaliate, and then goes berserk. If that is the answer it must be a relief to her. Strangers are her proverbial stress ball that she can just emotionally squeeze the shit out of. Maybe if I stayed there looking at her quizzically I would have seen her compose herself and drive off laughing. But I didn't, and now all I think about is the crazy cat lady from the Simpsons. | | Friday, January 25th, 2008 | | 10:01 pm |
L & O
I'm reaching a new depth I think. I've been finding myself drawn to Law & Order. Not the CI or SVU ones, the classic Law & Order (dun-dun). Did you know that this fucking show's been on since 1991. Our friend Andrew said that when he hear's the theme music he gets a little sad because it reminds him of his bed time when he was a kid. Andrew is 25 now! Anyway, it's total mindless tv, maybe even more mindless than watching America's Next Top Model. I dig spotting how many actors from The Wire pop up on the show. I also like that when I Tivo it off from TNT the last minute is cut off. It sort of becomes a little game to see if Sam Waterson or Fred Thompson will get to say their funny little tag line at the end of the episode before Tivo bongs and asks me if he want to delete or keep. | | Tuesday, July 24th, 2007 | | 9:51 pm |
Daft Punk Vs. Sonic Youth - The conclusion
DAFT PUNK WAS BONKERS!!! Andy & I went to see them on Saturday. We bought the tix like ages ago. Floor tix, and we were going to go with Jesse who told us to go as he proclaimed them the best band ever after seeing them at Coachella last year. We arrived to Kavinsky & Sebastian DJ'ing. I was bummed that neither one was actually doing their music as I had downloaded as much as I could find to prep for seeing them. I think I like Sebastian more. As soon as we got into the big arena and I saw the glow sticks and some pacifiers my excitement dropped a little as I did not just pay $65 to go to some lame rave. The lights went out and we watched Ratatat do some slow guitar dance songs. Good visuals and it sounded good. I knew the night was going to be much louder than the quiet Sonic Youth show the night before. Sebastian & Kavinsky came on after played more of the latest French jams, Justice and any Ed Banger hits. Then the lights went out and the weirdest fucking show I've ever been to in my entire life started. I know Daft Punk do the robot thing, but when they perform they do it in a pyramid that lights up with two gigantic screenes next to them that show close ups of their robot selves. The music was ear bleedingly loud. The entire place was on its feet eating up everything they were doing. It was a sign of the apocalypse. 15,000 people shirtless and sweaty, grinding and pumping the air with their fists while robots played on stage. ROBOTS!!! FACELESS DEMENTED LOOKING ROBOTS!!! Twiddling knobs, I think, and playing just non-stop techno. I just stood there and was dumbstruck by the whole event. I did love it, but it really did have to seep into me. I've been listening to their records non-stop since the show. Yes I have converted to become a Daftpunkian. The moment that totally made me uncomfortable and like question whether these two Frenchmen were the Anti-Christ and Christ jamming together was at the end of the show when they lifted their hands up in the air to make a pyramid shape and everyone (I MEAN EVERYONE!) did the same. It was like "The Apple" Bim Mark come to life. So if you do have a chance to see this flippin' bizarre show DO IT!!! You will not regret it. If they do come back I would love to see them at the Disney Hall. That would be brazilliant! | | Monday, July 23rd, 2007 | | 5:42 pm |
Sonic Youth vs. Daft Punk
So I got to see 2 great shows this weekend. Sonic Youth on Friday and Daft Punk on Saturday. Our friend Jason came into town with an extra ticket to Sonic Youth's performance of "Daydream Nation" at the Greek. I wanted to see this show for awhile, but I never got my ass in gear to buy tix and then there's the whole like buying tix on ticketmaster and worrying about getting good seats. We did buy our Daft Punk tix like the day they went on sale and got general admission floor tix. That show was bonkers. First Sonic Youth - I love this album. It's a total personal album as it is to millions of other peeps of my generation. I hadn't really listened to it in awhile, so I loaded it up on the iPod and got into again. The show was great and I'm so glad that I got to go. Thanks Jason. My gripes - Way too quiet. I thought it was me being old and deaf, but lots of folks were screaming out for them to turn it up. I was totally surprised at how quiet it was. Redd Kross was way louder. I even brought my earplugs expecting it to be like bleeding volume since it's one of those albums that you do just want to drown yourself in. No go. I was actually bummed that the band came back on and did new songs. SY are still a great band, but I don't know they do the same kind of stuff more or less over and over now. I know if you're a super fan you'll take me to task for saying this, but I've become a casual listener since the mid 90's and they haven't really progressed into anything else remarkable sound wise. If you get Daydream Nation you sort of get it. Yes, Goo and Dirty are more poppy (and I love those records), but it's sort of the same after awhile. I wasn't really expecting them to play anymore after the album, too. I guess I'm totally stupid for thinking that, but I thought it would Daydream Nation and nothing else. Goodnight. The new songs were good, but I couldn't help comparing them to what the main show was about. And it sort of then detracted from the greatness of Daydream Nation. Sonic Youth are characters now though. It's sort of funny. I mean, there was Kim doing the Kim thing, looking good for 54. And Thurston was tall and Thurston-y. Lee was looking like he should and then Steve brings up the rear. After seeing them as Simpsons characters and then in real life it's like they have become charactatures of themselves in some way. I was glad I went. I did want a green stripey shirt, but they sold out by the time I got to buy one. DAFT PUNK WAS BONKERS!!!! | | Friday, June 8th, 2007 | | 12:54 pm |

Team Andrew's AIDS LifeCycle Diary - Ep 1 & 2
So my friend Andrew is doing AIDS LifeCycle this year for the first time. He's almost mid-way between SF and LA. He's been leaving updates of his trip on his cell phone so that all of his friends can hear how it's going. What started out as a way to perserve his entries became this - Check back at my youtube.com/puppiesandkitties page for daily updates. See ya, Alex | | Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006 | | 5:34 pm |
